Description
Reporting to the VP Patient Services, the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Practitioner is responsible for assisting the implementation and maintenance of an effective and progressive IPAC Program by:
- Implementing and conducting patient surveillance activities
- Managing outbreak investigations, implementing interventions to control the outbreak and final analysis
- Provide consultation to all clinical and non-clinical areas on matters of IPAC by providing education, orientation and in-service to staff
- Leadership and coordination of all aspects of Infection Control, including the development, review and revision of Policies and Procedures
- Communicable disease reporting to the medical officer of health and the Northwestern Health Unit
- Performing designated administrative duties which includes participating in relevant professional associations, networking with peers, keeping current with IPAC literature, standards and guidelines and being flexible to take on additional duties and responsibilities as they are presented
- Be an integral part of the design, construction and renovation process within the existing facility as well as the new Hospital Project

Qualifications
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BN or BScN)
- Completion of an IPAC Canada endorsed program (Infection Prevention and Control) or willingness to complete program within 2 years.
- Willingness to obtain CIC certification (Certification in Infection Control) within 3-5 years
- Minimum five years’ experience in nursing
- Demonstrates knowledge of Infection Control standards and practices
- Knowledge and experience in Adult Education
- Computer literacy with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office program and ability to do comprehensive internet searches
- Ability to read and interpret research in the health sciences
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Experience in developing policy and procedures
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
- Reliable attendance record
- Current Membership with RNAO would be an asset
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Standards
- Certification of BCLS and demonstrated ongoing competency
